Solar Renewable Energy Credits: The Reason Why You Don’t Need Panels
Let us introduce you to the exchange system of the renewable energy industry: renewable energy certificates, or RECs for short. These credits represent all the electricity generated by clean energy sources added to the electric grid.
Solar, in particular, has a special kind of credit: the solar renewable energy credit, or SREC. No other green energy source has its own credit, which is why solar is so special!
Just one of these credits represents 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) or 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) that energy generators — including Chariot and our affiliate companies — generate from solar farms or concentrating solar power (CSP) plants. Without them, our solar energy would just fade into the grid with everything else. SRECs ensure that the energy your purchase is truly green and NOT created from fossil fuels.
